July 2018

In a land full of chocolate and watch making, Switzerland is home to many natural wonders which surprised us. Having visited Zurich before, we thought it would be the same, but this was not the case! We had forgotten so much that when we were back, it seemed like we were seeing it all for the first time. Also, we mistakenly thought Zurich was the capital of Switzerland , which it isn't! I know that many others would have thought the same as us!
Lucerne

So you may be wondering what the picture is on the left hand side. Well it’s a mirror maze- basically a room full of mirrors. We found this at the Glacier Garden in Lucerne. It was designed in the style of Granada’s Alhambra, which is a palace in Spain. It was really fun to walk (and run) around in, making sure we knew the correct path. It was one of highlights of our visit to Switzerland. Inside the Glacier Garden there were several stuff to visit, including a lion statue and a museum, which covered the geographical history of Lucerne. If you’re interested in Geography, make sure you visit here. Also take your student card as you get a discount for entry.
Carrying on with exploring Lucerne, the Chapel Bridge is a go to place for those aesthetic photos and the flowers on the bridge looked so beautiful. When we continued wandering around the streets, we came across a dam, which was really nice. It is in fact one of the last remaining needle dams in the world. A needle dam has thin pieces of wood known as needles to control the flow of the river (it has something to do with the flow rate, maybe look it up in an engineering textbook if you're interested)

One of the tourist hot spots in Switzerland would be Mount Pilatus. We took a Gondola ride to the top but only half way due to the expensive cost of the full ride. So sadly we didn’t get the nice view from the top. You can climb to the top from bottom in 4 hours!
Interlaken

Ok, our tale continues in the town of Interlaken known as the adventure capital of the world, and fun, yaay! We both booked paragliding before coming hence why we came here. This was probably best bit of the whole trip. It was so relaxing gliding through the sky but also the view was just unreal. Just look at the colour of the water in the lake.
When travelling to Interlaken, make sure you take the train, you won’t regret it, the scenery is amazing!
Another place to get a great view was at Harder Kulm , you get to ride a funicular to the top, if you're travelling using an interrailing pass, you can get a discounted ticket, so more money to spend later. From the top, we were able to get such a breath-taking view.
Zurich

Zurich was where we landed, it was where we spent most of our time with family. The first thing they gave us were Swiss chocolates, and till this day I’m still eating the chocolate we bought back from Switzerland. Keeping to the topic of food, you should try the Movenpick’s ice cream, I stuck with the classic vanilla flavour and have no regrets in doing so.

To all those football fans out there, we recommend giving the FIFA World Football museum a visit. It takes you on a journey through the history of the World Cup and given that the 2018 World Cup was on at the time it was the perfect time to visit. Again, discount was given for student. The fun part of the museum was near the end where there were several challenges to complete with a football. It tested different skills including dribbling and corner practices.
The most important part of travelling for us is souvenir shopping to have something to remember the trip by. I got a cuckoo clock cause I’ve always wanted one in my room. I also picked up a souvenir plate which is a must for us when visiting any country.
Another nice place to visit in Zurich is the Rhinefall, it’s a nice waterfall, but we visited it last time and unfortunately didn’t have time to go again.
Expensive is one of the words that come to mind when I think of Switzerland, but it's such a beautiful country. To put this into perspective, a medium McChicken Meal costs 13 CHF which is around £10. So for food and drink we stuck to buying it from supermarket, go to either Coop or Migros. Another piece of advice is travel using the tram.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post and I'll be back with more very soon. By the way, Switzerland is my new favourite place in Europe (Thailand is my fave in the world so far...)!
